The Globalstar system is designed for provision of mobile and fixed satellite communications services mainly in remote and hard-reaching areas where cellular and wire communications are undeveloped or underdeveloped.

CJSC GlobalTel, an exclusive service provider of the Globalstar global mobile satellite communications system, provides communication services in the territories of all 89 entities in the Russian Federation. Now all Russia's residents can make satellite phone calls from any location in Russia to any location around the world.

The Globalstar system provides to its subscribers high-quality satellite communication. The service zone in Russia covers territories from its southern borders to 74°; North and from its western borders to 180°.

From December 17, 2001 the Globalstar mobile satellite services became available by GlobalTel in the territories of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistani, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan. The Russian segment coverage area also includes Mongolia, Afghanistan, Northern Japan.
