ASYMMETRIC SATELLITE INTERNET WITH 3 Mbps
On June 27 the "TeleGlobEx" Ltd. jointly with the CJSC "GlobalTel" carried
out successful tests of high-rate asymmetric satellite access to the Internet with use of
a "Globalstar" modem. The maximum data receive rate amounted to 3.1 Mbps.
Satellite modem "Globalstar" Qualcomm GSP1620 or any terminal of the Mobile Telecommunication
Satellite System "Globalstar" allows to transmit and receive data with a data-rate of up to 9.6 Kbps.
The asymmetric satellite access to the Internet is based on a combination of use of "Globalstar" satellite
terminals (for formation of inquiry traffic) and a DVB-S receiver with a satellite dish-shaped antenna of a
television receiver or an antenna of a mobile communication receiver. The data receive rate when using standard
dial-up and VPN software for Windows can be as high as 300 Kbps.
Using special software approaches to data transmission acceleration the "TeleGlobEx" Ltd. solution
could reach the rate in a receiving channel of up to 3.1 Mbps. The future plans of the company are to carry out
testing of data reception with a rate of up to 4 Mbps.
During tests the following equipment was used: modem "Globalstar" Qualcomm GSP1620x1, DVB card:
SkyStar2 and a satellite receive television parabolic antenna of a Ku-range with a diameter of 0.9 m.
Transmission of Internet-traffic was carried out via the Russian geostationary telecommunication satellite
"Express-AM22" (53 degrees East).
New software of asymmetric access will allow providing users with a qualitative, inexpensive and accessible
service of high-rate satellite access to the Internet, including a service to receive audio and video information
in real time.
Besides this, the current solution makes it possible to provision a service of high-speed access to the Internet
for collective users including passengers of air, railway and waterborne transport, schools, hot-spots, Wi-Fi corporate
clients for whom broadband reception from the Internet is necessary, e-mail, file download. A 2-channel converter with
a parabolic television antenna allows users to receive from the satellite television and radio channels in parallel with data.
