GLOBALSTAR AND QUALCOMM SIGN $140 MILLION MULTI-YEAR MANUFACTURING AGREEMENT
Agreement for Manufacture and Delivery of Current and Next Generation
Satellite Voice and Data Solutions Represents Another in a Series of Investments by Globalstar
Milpitas, CA, June 13 2005 - Globalstar LLC, the world's most widely used handheld satellite
phone provider and a leading supplier of high-value satellite voice and data services to business, announced today
that it has entered into a $140 million multi-year agreement with QUALCOMM Inc., (Nasdaq: QCOM), for the manufacture
of next-generation satellite voice and data products. This agreement extends the company's long-standing business
relationship with QUALCOMM, and confirms QUALCOMM's continued involvement and commitment to the current production of
Globalstar satellite handsets, fixed terminals and data modem hardware, at a price point that will continue to make
Globalstar the industry leader for high-value cost-effective satellite voice and data solutions.
"This represents yet another in a series of infrastructure investments by Globalstar, all intended to
enhance the company's leadership position in the mobile satellite industry and to advance the company toward
the next decade and beyond. We are very pleased to reaffirm our business relationship with QUALCOMM as their
involvement positively adds to company momentum that has been building over the past year," said Jay Monroe, CEO and
Chairman of Globalstar LLC.
"In the near term, the agreement enables Globalstar to ensure an uninterrupted supply of mobile handsets and fixed units.
It also assures QUALCOMM's future involvement in the production of our next-generation satellite voice and data products.
With this agreement, Globalstar can continue to offer product and service solutions that are unparalleled in terms of voice
quality, reliability, and data throughput."
The agreement secures Globalstar's hardware requirements for at least the next four years and the investment will
enable the company to continue offering satellite voice handsets and data hardware to domestic and international distributors,
resellers and end-user customers, at a price point that will allow it to maintain its position as a leader in the MSS
category.
This agreement represents another in a series of Globalstar investments since the company's restructuring over a year
ago. "The opening of our new gateway in Florida scheduled for early July, our construction of the new Alaska gateway,
our recent re-launch of our business unit in Europe, and our purchase of the Venezuelan gateway from the original owner,
combined with this agreement with QUALCOMM, collectively represent major milestones for Globalstar," added Monroe.
QUALCOMM has had a long business relationship with Globalstar. QUALCOMM currently manufactures the GSP 1600 handset,
the GSP 2900 fixed unit, as well as the GSP-1620 duplex data modem hardware.
"QUALCOMM is pleased to continue its relationship with Globalstar, and this agreement should help to further expand
the range of applications available and move the satellite voice and data market forward," said Scott Becker, Senior
Vice President and General Manager, QUALCOMM Wireless Systems.
