On August 21 - September 20, 2003 a group from Cheliabinsk Hikers Club made a mountain tour in the Central Zalay (N-W Pamirs) mountains. The tour was sponsored by Cheliabinsk-based "UAZ Autotekhobslujivanie", a GlobalTel dealer, who provided the hikers with a Globalstar satellite phone. After a successful acclimatization on the Mindjar pass and arrival to the target area an accident happened: one of the participants fell down when crossing the Sauksay River and got a bad injury. A medical consultation was obtained through the satellite phone first and later the group leader asked for a helicopter to evacuate the injured man.


BY THE WAY
The hikers found out that two Crona batteries allow tocharge 4/5 of fully discharged satellite phone batteries. They concatenated the batteries to the car charger.
