On Saturday, August 23 CJSC GlobalTel made its presentation at the briefing in support
of French traveler Gilles Elkaim organized by the Moscow-based representative office of the
European Space Agency within the framework of MAKS-2003 air show.
Gilles Elkaim, who is traveling on dogs in the Russian North, has now reached the town of Pevek.
During the trip he uses Globalstar GSP-1600 mobile Qualcomm UT as one of
communications means.
At the briefing a special focus was put on the Globalstar communications service,
which turned to Gilles very helpful last November when the traveler appeared in an
extreme situation. He was caught in the storm on an ice-floe in the open sea but
managed to contact rescuers and was able to maintain communication with Director
of the Moscow Club "Advanture" D. Shparo and the rescuers until he was saved.
A communications session with Gilles Elkaim was held during the briefing. He plans to continue
his route to the Bering Strait during the polar night.
