CJSC GlobalTel completed certification of Telit SAT550X(XF) marine kit in the Russian
River Register. The formal permit allowing using the terminal as back-up radio equipment
on river vessels is obtained.
CJSC GlobalTel is actively working on departmental certification
of the Globalstar satellite system equipment. In May 2002
Telit SAT550X(XF) UT was tested in the Russian River Register.
The SAT550X(XF) marine kit is the set of additional equipment for mounting
portable SAT 550 terminal on board a ship. Certificates of
the RF Ministry of Telecommunications, Gosstandart and Ministry
of Public Health have been obtained for SAT550X(XF) and it
has been in operation in the RF territory since 2000. ICS
Electronics (Great Britain), the SAT550X (XF) manufacturer,
conducted tests of its electromagnetic compatibility in accordance
with BS EN 60945 1997 (MEK 945) standard.
During the tests in the Russian River Register the possibility of
using SAT550X(XF) in domestic rivers as backup radio equipment
for telephone communications between the ship and/or riverside
objects was tested.
Within the framework of the SAT550X(XF) examination the River Register
conducted electromagnetic compatibility tests, checked the
Kit’s case protection level, tested mechanical and environmental
tolerance and operation safety.
On the basis of the tests the terminal’s parameters correspondence
to its technical characteristics was acknowledged. The ship
tests of the telephone communications through SAT550X(XF)
demonstrated superb quality and reliability of the Globalstar
services.
Permit # 100-11-06 of the Russian River Register and # 101-11-06
of the Russian River Register dated May 28, 2002 for Telit
SAT550 user terminal (UT) as a unit with SAT550X(XF) backup
equipment was obtained. The Permit allows using SAT550 UT
as a unit with SAT550X(XF) as backup radio equipment on vessels
for providing communications through the Globalstar system.
At present river vessels in Russia are insufficiently equipped
with communication facilities ensuring high quality and variety
of communications between vessels and riverside services.
This niche can be successfully filled with Globalstar user
terminals.
CJSC GlobalTel is the exclusive service provider of the Globalstar
global mobile satellite communications system in Russia. The
founders of GlobalTel are OJSC Rostelecom and Globalstar L.P.
In May 1997 Globalstar L.P. and GlobalTel signed an agreement,
which granted GlobalTel the exclusive rights to provide Globalstar
services on the territory of the Russian Federation. Globalstar
services have been provided in Russia since October 2000.
